Sibusiso Duma was born in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, in 1978. In 1994 he met the late Trevor Makhoba (1956-2003) who was well known for his controversial and socially critical painting style. Makhoba mentored Duma from 1994 to 2003. Every day after school Duma painted alongside Makhoba, and much of Makhoba's influence can be seen in the young artist's work. Hovering between reality and fantasy, Duma's paintings are repositories of life experiences and childhood memories.
The exhibition opens on Thursday 30 April, 6-8pm. The gallery is open from Tuesday to Friday, 10.30am to 5.30pm, and Saturday from 9.30am to 3pm.
