King

Matthew Alexander King's You Asked A Joke Question, But I Gave A Serious Answer [And So On], is a programme of scheduled and unscheduled performative gestures. Over the course of the exhibition King will perform a range of interventions that interact with the logic and structure of the exhibition and gallery environment. As King writes of this exhibition of performances:

I would like to spend a lot of time at the gallery over the course of this show. In part, I want to 'get to know' the place and figure out some sense of how it operates. I'm hoping to communicate something of all this through a system (a series? A schedule? A colligation?) of performative gestures. For the most part, the focus of these gestures will be the 'personal encounter', will be talking to people (in one way or another (it could be as simple as just saying 'hi' to someone as they enter)). However I am just as interested in not talking to anyone and seeing what kind of gestures might arise from 'hanging about'. I am not, I would like to note, without my reservations regarding this. I'm worried that I'll end up irritating everyone, is kind of what I mean.
