Simon Gush
Salute

25 October - 24 November 2007

Michael Stevenson is pleased to present Salute by Simon Gush as its fourth exhibition in the side gallery series.

For his first solo show in a commercial gallery, Gush presents an exhibition that takes the relationship between artists and collectors as a starting point. Discussions around the increasingly prominent profile of collectors in the international art-world have escalated in recent years. Gush approaches his exhibition as a backdrop within this debate. His thinking is distilled into a single work within the gallery space.

Salute is characteristic of Gush's meticulously context-specific practice in which a recurring theme has been a fascination with the mechanics of the art world.

Gush graduated with a BA(FA) from the University of Witwatersrand in 2003, and is currently a Candidate-Laureate at the Hoger Instituut van Schone Kunsten, Ghent, Belgium. He founded and curated the Parking Gallery, an artist-run temporary project space, in Johannesburg for 6 months of 2006.

The exhibition will open on Thursday 25 October from 6 to 8pm.
