Monument to the horse, Bethulie, Free State. 12 February 2005

The (translated) inscription on the statue reads: 'The Rapportryerskorps of Bethulie honours the contribution of the horse to South African history. Unveiled 23 April 1982 by the Honourable J S Pansegrauw (Commissioner-general of the South Sotho national entity). Sculptor - Laura Rautenbach.'

After the theft of some bronze oxen from a Voortrekker monument at the other end of town, the Rapportryers erected the protective steel cage in 2004. (The Rapportryers is a service organisation of Afrikaner professional and businessmen.)
