Georges Adeagbo

mixed media
50 x 35cm

Having trained in law & political science in France, Adeagbo
returned in 1971 to his birthplace Cotonou, Republic of Benin. He is an artist
who creates installations in the sandy courtyard of his compound out of
found bits & pieces. These arrangements of all manner of unrelated objects
laid out on the ground are regarded with curiosity by onlookers. It
is said that because his train of thought is not always understood this has
been so much cause for concern that on various occasions relatives have
had him admitted to mental hospitals.
It is difficult to make out whether he's not so much mad as misunderstood.
There is logic in the system he employs. But the problem is that his method is
so unusual people don't know what to make of it. Perhaps it is simply because
they stand on the outside of his preoccupation with the archeology of knowledge.
