"--- He was a doctor during the war, & first began to paint in 1944,
in a prison
camp in Texas. When he was set free, he gave up his practice in
continue painting. His first exhibition was held in 1974. Burri is
for works made of sacking & old rags: his reason for using these
was that they reminded him of the blood-soaked bandages he had seen
in war time.
