When they see my studio inevitably people who come
to call are surprised. They always comment that it is
such a contrast to other artists' studios. Everything is
so absolutely orderly. After visiting me the English artist
Ben Nicholson told someone that my studio is as neat
as a doctor's surgery.
I find it much easier to concentrate on my work when
my working environment is orderly. I just can't work
like some artists, flinging & splattering paint all over
the place.
I must admit, though, that one of the days I am going
to give in to temptation & let my hair down & go all
the way, far, far out to extremes & I'm going to paint
something really insanely jazzy. It is going to be a
kind of tribute to Ahmed Jamal, Miles Davis & all the
jazz music-makers of the 20th century.
