Bushman Artist

(Except from THE PEOPLES OF SOUTH AFRICA, a chapter from the Official year-
book of 1985 - "As late as the 1860s a Bushman shot during punitive expedition
after a cattle raid, was found to have pigments & materials used for rock paintings").

Almost as if to emphasize his anonymity, he appears only as a brief footnote in the
historical section of a yearbook. Yet he might have lived a full life perhaps
perfoming only selected others had practiced for many, many centuries before him, leaving
their knowledge in the form of painted images on the walls of rock shelters &
engraved & tool-pecked symbols on stones in the landscape.
Perhaps an important functionary & roll player in his community possessed of
particular wisdom, in the end some farmer & land grabber exterminated this man as
if he was merely obnoxious, objectionable vermin.
