Hunky voice, muted,/ wit,/ mastery intensity,
Yes, passion;
the spoken word's unnecessary, absurd. / This is all musical sound heard,
phrases drawn out, cut sharp, melodiously / creative transformation.
Hear cool calculated easy going flow / alternated with the measured contrast
of your heartbeat - riff / punctuated by staccato / blow, pause / redirect/
(acknowledge or ignore applause received / even standing, perversely, with back
to the filled to overflowing enthusiasm of the auditorium.)
April in Paris, / Nights in the Gardens of Spain, / September in the Rain,
Time after Time.
One after the other the melody's the thing
they've come to hear you swing, brother, / great stuff, joy, ecstasy, lament,
music seemingly Heaven sent.
They'll never get enough
& so on & on / to the last solo / the vibe sustained &
on into that long dark permanent silence
into which you go -
held still.
