There were ancient tales informing us that one day
there would be the great beings who would arrive from
the sea. So we waited & when they came we welcomed
them.
But this was not what we expected, not this personificat-
ion of misused power, evil & greed. We were disappointed,
confused & then, because we were angry, we retaliated.
What I found difficult to understand was the absence of
respect for my royal person. What was even more demean-
ing was their suggestion they would offer me, the
mighty one, freedom in exchange for gold.
